The Richmond, Indiana Homestead

The Early 1900's

The Fienning Family Homestead in Richmond, Indiana was located at 1011 South 8th Street.
From 1904-1905, George and Frances Contract with Mr. Hasecoster to build the first floor (parlor, dining room, bedroom/"borning" room with a walk-in closet, kitchen, pantry), a second floor (two unheated bedrooms and an attic), a concrete slab with a roof over it behind the kitchen. There was a basement under the whole house. George, Frances and Richard (age 2) move in.

Later a bathroom, a hallway, a closet a bedroom with a walk-in closet were added. Also a stairway was built to the third floor attic. A bedroom was built on the third floor with a walk in closet and three gables were constructed. The ceilings were plastered throughout the attic and a floor and some cupboards were installed. A hot air furnace was added under the dining room which provided heat to all the bedrooms.

In the early 1980's the home was sold to a new family.The home was built for $3,000 & the family paid $0.50 a week to the Building & Loan.
